The documentary film was all about global warming. The observed temperature increased over the last 50 years. This is due to the increase in the atmosphere of greenhouse gas concentrations like water vapour, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and ozone. These greenhouse gases absorb the sunlight coming from the sun that reaches the Earth instead of letting them be radiated back into space. They act like a mirror and reflect back to the Earth some of the heat energy which would otherwise be lost to space. This absorption of sunlight warms the atmosphere.

The continuous production of greenhouse gases mainly affects the global warming. Greenhouse gases are produced during Industrial processes, waste disposal and treatment, biomass burning, and fossil fuel retrieval and processing. Many agricultural byproducts also produce greenhouse gases. The CO2 emitted by cars contribute to the warming of the surface of the earth.

Due to thermal expansion of the atmosphere and the ocean, sea levels begin to rise. The melting of land ice caused by the global warming also contributes to this rise. The heat changes the climate and alters weather patterns, which may hasten species extinction, influence the length of seasons, cause coastal flooding, and lead to more frequent and severe storms. Other effects of global warming include higher or lower agricultural yields, further glacial retreat, and diseases like malaria are returning into areas where they have been extinguished earlier.

Mitigation is an intervention to reduce the sources of greenhouse gases and to find more ways to eliminate them. It supposes that people can have an impact on reversing climate change. It also implies that human activity is at least in part responsible for global warming. Adaptation, on the other hand, aim to help humanity thrive as a species under the future conditions of climate change. Adaptation means adapting to or coping with the current situations that were caused by the climate change. It’s the adjustment in natural or human systems to the new and continuously changing environment.

Intergenerational equity is the equity or fairness among generations. It is equality in terms of treatment and interactions. This means that we should be fair to the future generations that will come. We should preserve the resources that we have today for them to use in the future. We should not destroy this earth, because in here, they will live in the future. Like us, they should be able to utilize what we have utilized, experience what we have experienced and enjoy what we have enjoyed. Thus, we should do all what we can do to prevent or somehow stop the ongoing global warming.

The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle program can be launched by our community to reduce global warming. We can also launch the Conserve energy campaign. This campaign will encourage other people to turn off appliances if they are not using it, and other similar activities.

Each one of us can contribute something to help reduce global warming and save the earth. So Malayan Colleges Laguna can also help in solving this worldwide problem. The Administrators can instruct the employees to replace everything with energy-efficient ones, like replacing the ordinary light bulbs, if there are, with compact fluorescent light bulbs. The students can initiate the campaigns and programs to reduce the global warming. The faculty members can educate and inform students about this global warming. The Parents and Partner Communities can encourage others drive less and drive smart to reduce the emission of CO2, which is a greenhouse gas.
